For Patients

Dr Damian Dowling is one of seven gastroenterologists practicing from the Geelong Gastroenterology Specialist Consulting Rooms.  The rooms are routinely open Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 4.00pm.

If for any reason you are unable to attend an appointment, please notify the practice as soon as possible.  A cancellation fee applies when notice of cancellation is given less than 24 hours prior to the appointment.

Emergency weekend cover is shared between all gastroenterologists.  In the event of an after-hours emergency please telephone 5229 0443.

Please note that if you require admission to Geelong Hospital as a public patient, doctors other than Dr Dowling (including junior staff) may be involved in your care and management.

Interpreting assistance can be arranged if needed. Please advise in advance if you require this service.  The use of interpreting services is associated with additional patient cost.

If you have any concerns or questions regarding any aspect of this practice, please do not hesitate to speak to Dr Dowling.

All patients attending for consultation or endoscopy must have a referral from their General Practitioner.  Patients are encouraged to forward their referral to Dr Dowling’s office at the earliest possible date; this allows triage of more urgent problems to earlier appointment dates.

Consultation Fees:

Consultation fees vary with the complexity and duration of the consultation.   Medicare rebates apply to all consultation fees.  Rebates generally cover between 50 -75% of the fee charged.  Fees are reduced for pensioner card holders.  Full fees are payable on the day of consultation.  Cheque, credit card and EFTPOS facilities are available.

Endoscopy Fees:

Privately Insured Patients:  Dr Dowling is a NO-GAP provider, meaning fees relating to endoscopic procedures are charged directly to patient’s Private Health Insurance fund and will not result in an out of pocket expense.

Please note anaesthetic fees associated with endoscopic procedures are billed separately by the attending anaethetist. Information pertaining to anaesthetic fees can be obtained from Geelong Anaesthetic Group (ph: 5222 3500).

Uninsured patients:  Patients without Private Health Insurance are provided with details regarding the out of pocket costs relating to any endoscopic procedure prior to the procedure being booked.
